Vending Machines

I was reading the boingboing article about the French book vending machines and I got an interesting idea. Why do vending machines have to always sell physical merchandise? Could we vend virtual goods on the street? Basically the first thing that came to my mind is iTunes vending machine.

You put a dollar into the machine, pop your ipod into the slot, and few seconds later you have the newest song uploaded and ready to go. Of course not everyone is using ipods, so you can’t just put these anywhere. But put one in front of one of those Apple stores and you will see people lining up to it. Install them in schools and universities and kids will go nuts over them.

I think something like that could really work. But then again, maybe it’s just a silly idea that would only work in France where people buy books from vending machines.
