Trackback Spam

Trackback Spam pisses me off. I just got one hit from some pill pusher the other day. Comment spam is one thing, but trackback spam is even more annoying. I just bought this domain like a week ago or so, and I already get crap like that. This is not good. So fat it was only one annoying trackback, but that just means that I’m on someones sploging list.

So I installed Akismet to control the spamification of my lovely blog here. I keep hearing good things about that plugin so let’s see how awesome it is in practice. I wonder how it deals with flooding attacks. I have been maliciously flooded once by some retard who didn’t like what I said on slashdot P

The problem with flooding is that it is usually done with pre-created shit lists. I have seen people posting these things in forum - long, vile, hateful, disgusting documents that can be fed into that stupid perl script. These things are actually proper English, with semi-correct grammar and punctuation. You only know it’s spam, because you get few hundred of them at once, and the have nothing to do with the current discussion.

Fortunately, so far my spambox is empty and flooders stay away for the most part. So maybe that trackback thing was just a glitch and I’m not going to get blasted that badly.

Worse comes to worse, I’ll disable trackbacks and anonymous posting again…

Akismet comes pre-installed with the free accounts, and its been giving me problems. My one friend from the UK can’t seem to leave comments without them being catagorized as spam.

Akismet is a little light on configurability - you have no controll over the filters it seems. This kinda sucks. So far it has been working for me though. Over the last few weeks the only things that got blocked were splogerisms (buy drugs online garbage).

Can you disable it in the free verison? I would imagine you should be able to do that as this is a plugin.
