Peak Oil

Please check out the Life After the Oil Crash website by Matt Savinar. Please repost this on your blog, forward it to your friends and show it to your relatives. It is crucial that people see this, and take it seriously.

We are on the brink of civilizational collapse. Within the next 10-20 years the oil production will peak, and start declining. Once the production falls more than 10% below demand, we can expect to see severe fuel shortages, similar to the big crash that happened in 70’s. And it will only get worse from there.

Oil shortage will cause gas prices to skyrocket, effectively shutting down transportation, and crippling our industry…

Technology sector will die. Computer science will cease to exist. All my skills knowledge and experience will be useless soon. I can only hope that the peak hits later than expected and I will be old and senile or dead by the time our current way of life becomes obsolete.

I figured it would be nice to give credit to the person who actually told me about Peak Oil - Synackal.

Fixed some spelling, and one sentence that didn’t make any sense.

You know, a few months ago I got obsessed with peak oil. I couldn’t sleep and all I could think about was buying some land up north where I could stockpile food and go to live when everything went down the toilet.

The thing is though, I wonder the peak oil point of view isn’t a little too extreme. I’m not saying that we won’t eventually run out of oil. What I’m saying is that we’ll probably have major problems from climate change due to global warming first, and major disasters as a result (like katrina). Also, we’ll probably have oil related trouble while there’s still oil in the ground because of the nationalization of oil patches. That’s probably the best thing too, because it will force countries like the US to do something about the problem long before the oil runs out.

Bottom line? I’m not TOO worried about it. My focus is to get out of debt, put some money aside and try and buy a house (and/or some land) and be as independent as possible. Everything else… is in God’s hands )

Well, I’m not loosing any sleep over this yet either. There is not much we can do about this stuff anyway. The best thing we can do, is to spread the word, and think about some possible plan B for ourselves and our famillies in case the shit hits the fan tomorrow. Other than that, I just plan to live my life and enjoy the benefits of civilization while I can )

You do make a good point about technology though. I was meaning to write a post about this, but I mention it here first.

Think about it, we are increasingly becoming 100% digital. Your identity as far as the government and the rest of the world is concerned is stored and handled digitally. All your credit, purchase history, memberships, etc… is stored and processed on computer. The day there’s no more electricity, you cease to exist. No hard copy, no existo… -)

      Just a thought.

I guess you might as well revise your plan about getting out of debt eh? No electricity, no more credit card bills to pay off )

Worse yet - right now we have nearly unlimited access to scientific knowledge. We can do research online, or hop in a car and go to a public library. And if we don’t find what we look for there, we can order the books or articles we need on amazon or via some inter-library exchange program.

Once there is no fuel, and no electricity all the knowledge will be locked up in fragile books scattered in libraries, book stores and warehouses all around the globe. And without erelectricity there will be no good way to communicate any advancments from one reagion to another. Scietific thought across the globe will be stunted for ages to come.

Totally! We’ll be thrown back at least two hundred years, maybe more! I mean we won’t even have a basic telegraph… well maybe a one with a hand crank or something, but really, bye-bye information age, hello stone age!

I wouldn’t say stone age. I would say wild west. Or maybe something like Mad Max or that Postman movie.

Either way, we can definitely say goodbye to space conquest. After reading that article it seems that we will probably never going to get out of the Solar System. Our species is probably going to die on this rock…

Hello depressing. Good thing I believe in an afterlife )

Anyway, it might just be the thing humanity needs to keep us from killing ourselves off. We’d make a comeback, I’m sure of it. Maybe not right away, but we would. You know, after the complete and total collapse of everything we take for granted today and the ensuing chaos. Heh… w00t for humanity!

True, it’s possible we can one day recover from this. After the civilization breaks down we will have to find some ways to rebuild it. And hey, maybe we will to it right this time mrgreen
