No More Freedom Fries!

Ex-Freedom Fries

Apparently, the Capitol Hill Freedom Fries are being renamed back to French Fries again! Does this mean that sanity has returned to Washington? Or is this just a brief moment of lucidity before they relapse into their usual nuttiness?

Personally, I think that they are simply being thorough and consequential with their approach to freedom. They already well on their way to remove the freedom of press and freedom of expression. Why should fries be free if the citizens are not? We can’t have a politically charged word associated with the staple of corporate foodstuffs. It would confuse people. We want consumers to be lulled into unthinking stupor in which they can be easily manipulated by advertisers and politicians alike. Corporate food that reminds people about noble political ideals is definitely a bad idea.

We are currently in the process of redefining of what exactly does Freedom means. For example, we are free to hold you at Gitmo as long as we want without a trial. That’s an example of freedom we really want to keep. Everything else is free to go. But those pesky journalists should definitely not be free to protect their sources.

Most importantly though, I think that Washington wants to send us a clear message that there is no such thing as free lunch anymore. In other words, it will be a cold day in hell before we see the minimum wage adjusted for inflation by the bush-o-crats - not without some strings attached.
