Baby Steps to Improvement
Good news are hard to find these days. But every once in a while there is a glimmer of hope in the sea of stupid:
A federal judge on Thursday ruled that the U.S. government’s domestic eavesdropping program is unconstitutional and ordered it ended immediately.
The ruling specifies that the wiretapping program violates the following:
- The separation of powers doctrine
- Administrative Procedures Act
- First Amendment
- Fourth Amendment
- FISA
- Title III
In other words, the courts don’t think that the program even falls in the so called “gray area” - it is quite blatantly unlawful. Naturally, bushocracy decided to appeal this ruling.
Possibly the most disturbing quote from the linked article can be attributed to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist:
Terrorists are the real threat to our constitutional and democratic freedoms, not the law enforcement and intelligence tools used to keep America safe.
WRONG!!! The greatest threat to democracy comes from within! Our founding fathers recognized that and that’s why we have the separation of power, and all the checks and balances built into constitution and all political procedures. Terrorists can kill many people, disrupt and inconvenience our lives, but they will never be able to take away our freedom. No matter what they do we will still be a free democratic nation - unless of course they invade us, defeat our military, overthrow our government and enslave to population. But somehow I do not see that ever happening.
The only way we can loose our freedom is by letting our leaders to take it away from us, and change our democratic nation into a totalitarian police state.
