Windows HTTP Server under 600KB

I think that HFS is one of the more useful and noteworthy tools I have seen in a while. It is a fully functional http server that weighs in under 600KB and does not require any installation. You simply download the windows binary, run it and start adding files and links to it using a very intuitive GUI.

HFS will actually create an index page for you, so that you don’t even need to bother writing any HTML. All you need to do is to add a folder or bunch of files and links using the interface, and other people can start downloading from your machine immediately.

HFS will allow you to cap the max download/upload speed, ban certain IP addresses from accessing the page and do many other things a fully featured server would do.

You can deploy it and start sharing files in under 30 seconds. Can you set up a windows share that fast? What if you need to share with people joined to a different workgroup/domain? What if the other computer is behind a firewall that only allows outbound HTTP trafic? HFS is much more convenient than using email or IM to transfer files.

It is one of those apps that definitely needs to be on your thumb drive.
