US Torture Bill explained in Code
Here is the best commentary of the Torture Bill I have seen so far:

I found this in the Wired blog, and I simply stripped the unnecessary braces from the if statement. If you don’t get the joke go look up stuff about assignment vs. comparison in C.
I think the founding fathers are turning in their graves right now. What happened to inalienable rights? This is America, and every person has a fucking right to a fair trail and humane treatment. It does not make a difference if that person is a terrorist or not.
Did our republican overlords forget about this:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,

I the Torture Bill stands against everything we believe in as a nation. It is a shameful disgrace and an atrocity.

I love that that’s so cool. if (person = terrorist) Assumed quilty I suppose, lol. Yet in reality our founding fathers killed and tortured indians, had slaves and murdered and ate animals. So I’m not so sure they would be turning over in their graves. This country has always killed and tortured whoever they wished too. But at least in some case if the cops got caught doing so they were “punished”, now i suppose that’s not even the case. A sad state of affairs as america slides even farther into fascism, and I can only wonder when ppl like you and me are going to be arrested for merely talking. But certainly the Torture Bill stands against everything we believe our nation is supposed to be, ie the American Mythology.
Governments, always attempt to consolidate power motivated by self-interest and self-preservation, and always abuse whatever power they are allowed. Remember tho, The Ambiguous Enemy is Us

You know, sometimes I think that those who desire power are almost by definition unfit to hold it. They are likely to give into temptation and abuse it.
The high ranking politicians should be chosen from among the competent, and not so much from among the willing. But that’s not really possible, isn’t it?
Thanks for the link. The perpetual war thing reminds me so much of Orwellian vision of 1982 that it’s scary…
