20 Things on the Internets that Piss Me Off
There are things on the internets that piss me off these days:
- Online Comic Strips without a functional RSS feed (and no, the feed for your Live Journal does not count, unless it notifies me when you update your comic)
- Sites with 16 different feeds for each different categories/sections, none of which encompasses all the content posted there
- News Sites which can’t be bothered to publish a RSS feed
- News Sites with an overactive RSS feed that racks up 50+ posts a day (I’m looking at you digg)
- Blogs that do not allow comments especially the ones which pose questions to the reader or start their posts with the rhetorical “Can someone explain to me why…”
- People who abandon their blog for 3 months, then write a 10 page dissertation apologizing the readers, and explaining why they were not blogging, only to disappear for another 3 months. Come on people - stop apologizing, and start blogging. Geez!
- People who put intricate images as the background for their Myspace profiles, and then make sure all the text containers are transparent so that you can’t read shit without highlighting it
- People who put music on their Myspace profiles. Playing music on your website was a shitty idea back in the 90’s and it is still a shitty idea now
- Websites done completely in flash. If you see one of those, you can safely assume that it has no worthwhile content and move on
- Webmasters who think that disabling right-click via javascript actually does something
- Sites that excessively watermark their images - especially if they simply lifted them from another site.
- People who do not use email because they are always signed into AIM, and utilize Myspace and Facebook for all other email-like stuff that can’t be done over IM.
- Retards posting their lip syncing videos on YouTube
- Retards posting videos of themselves singing on YouTube
- All the so called “YouTube celebrities” that became (in)famous thanks to their lip syncin/singing videos
- Dudes posting videos of “Ghost Riding the Whip” and not getting hurt. Unless you are run over, or you total your car, I’m not interested in that dumb shit
- Companies which use “Beta” tag as a fashion statement (yes, Google, that means you)
- Websites that use nested tables for layout
- Websites that still refuse to enter the world of CSS and standards compliant design
- Assholes who design IE only websites for no other reason than being fucken lazy

Actually, I can tolerate these people much better than Microsoft fanboys who claim that some MS product is innovative in some way.
Linux fanboys are ok in my book most of the time, cause they generally tell the truth
(read: I can be an annoying Linux fanboy at times).

A-fucking-men to this list. To extended a few of them- do not give the StumbleUpon “thumbs up” to a site with a video clip (via YouTube or any other shit dispersion center.) When I’m stumbling I want to see relevant and insightful pages that I might not have found on my own, I don’t give a rat’s ass about a video you think is funny. Same goes for a flash site- I don’t care how creative it is, if you make me stare at you “loading” image, I’m leaving. If you want to do something so interactive, go write a video game or something.

The required forms are here for a reason. I don’t have threaded discussions here (nor do I want to have them cause they suck) so if you don’t put your name next to the comments, how will other people know how to respond to you? They could quote you but quoting is redundant.
Oh, and CAPTCHA is here to prevent spammerz from spamming me with spammalicious spam.
Oh, and that Myspace player is pretty standard - it’s actually a built in feature. Before they added it, people used to embed music in their profiles in a plethora of other stupid ways, some of which were even more annoying. But yeah, it still sucks.
Submitting a blog post with an embedded Youtube vid to stumble, digg or etc is just traffic whoring - especially since 90% of the time the author of the post is not the person who uploaded the vid in the first place.

If I hit Stumble and it pops up with a quicktime object and nothing else on the page I always hit stop very quickly
Firstly because I have yet to be entertained or interested by a quicktime object but mainly because they always seem to crash the window
Flash games I dont mind. Serious websites that feel like a flash game, I do
Also, title pages or menus that have some strange rollover effect that makes all the choices move around or change size as you move the mouse (presumably trying to guess what youre going to choose and bring it closer or make it bigger)
Problem is that if I can see the option I want (If I cant then thats also poor design) I’ll probably move my mouse over to it pretty fast and then click equally quickly, this leaves quite a scope for missing the button altogether is its moved in the intervening period
also when you expect hitting enter to do one thing (e.g. submit a comment) and it actually does something similar but different (e.g. preview the comment)

I hate it that you have to register every stupid site with complete details (+ a valid email address for some stupid confirmation link) to even get access to the slightest information on that site!

I see it this way:
- required registration in order to use the community based features such as forum, comments, email notifications, advanced features and etc makes sense
- required registration in order to read a news article or download a free trial of some software app is just plain annoying.
