Thesis Extensions Cause Infinite Loops
I just found out that my thesis extension caused an infinite loop in the MSU administration procedures. Let me explain this:
- I can’t get a grade for the thesis “course” until I finish and defend it.
- I can’t finish my thesis, because I need to register for a thesis extension.
- I can’t register for a thesis extension because there is a hold on my account.
- The hold on my account is there because I didn’t pay for my thesis course.
- I was never supposed to pay for it, because it was covered by my assistantship and was to be waved by the Graduate School.
- Unfortunately bursars office can’t wave the tuition fee because I don’t have a grade for the thesis course.
- I won’t get a grade for the thesis course unless I register for the extension.
Do you see where this is going? The only practical way to break out of this loop of course is to pay for the course myself and then hope that they will one day reimburse me. I’m not doing that though. They will have to unloop themselves somehow before May because I friken need to finally graduate and get out of here.
Sigh… You’ve got to love Montclair State.

Hehehe, maybe your thesis should be on meatspace examples of coding phenomena like infinite loops.

LOL! That’s a good idea, but I don’t want to change the topic now that I’m almost done.

I respect anyone that stays in college at all. I am a J.C. dropout. Fortunately I still found my way into a good career, but I had many “adventures” on the way.
Stick to it, dude!

I’m definitely sticking to it. Actually I’m thinking about doing a PHD at some point down the road, but I’m not sure if I have it in me.
First though, I need to finish writing this thesis and get my MS.

You’re almost done. Don’t let the great logic of MSU bring you down. It’s not worth it, trust me I KNOW!

I’m mostly amused by it. It wouldn’t be MSU if things were not done slow and backwards. I guess this is part of this schools magical charm - you’d think something would be simple, routing and boring. Then you find out how MSU does it and all of a sudden you have a crazy WTF story you can share with friends.
