Oh wow! Good catch. It does indeed look like a rhesus. I didn't think of mange. I feel bad for the poor thing now. :(

This appears to be a rhesus (<i>Macaca mulatta</i>) or another variety of macaque monkey suffering from mange, and the resulting loss of hair due to that condition.

As to the comments about chimpanzee skin color, the various subspecies have differences, from light to dark, as well as it changing depending on age and health.

Oh wow... I have no clue what that means, but it's pretty funny that you dreamed about this very monkey.

I googled hairless monkey, because last night I had a dream of one. And your link came up first. What strikes me as truly frightening is that this pic looks exactly like my dream. His expression is so intense. I am getting chills right now. In my dream he was in the middle of the street where I grew up and I had to save him from the cars and traffic. I was not afraid but I knew my duty was to get him out of there. Later I dreamt that Owen wilson's brother died, but his name was Christian Wilson... none such person exists and further more, why did I dream of Owen Wilson? TRuly bizarre. I just wanted to say, that I dreamt about this very hairless monkey last night. I have no idea what that means.

I've seen this one and other pictures of hairless chimps.
I think it's just an anomaly, like humans with hair all over their faces.
Imagine this creature in a charred flight suit with its ears burned off along with its hair--what would it look like? We did use chimps as part of the space program. What if one or more fell to earth--say in Roswell, NM? What would you think it was?

Interesting. I assumed their skin was dark because of their faces and etc... But then I do recall seeing pictures of baby chimpanzees with light skin.

Hmm....
