Hitman The Movie

Uh! Oh! They finally released a trailer for the Hitman movie:

The good news is, that Vin Diesel is not in it. Not that I have anything against the fucking Riddick. Say what you want, but the dude is ok in my book. I mean, he used to play D&D. But, unfortunately he is definitely not 47! Not by a long shot. I never saw him as a good fit – there would be just to much brutal ass kicking if he was in it, and that’s just not Hitman style at all.

But, who the fuck is Timothy Olyphant. How the hell did he get that role? I fucking hate Holywood. Instead of offering the role to the voice of 47 himself – David Bateson they first digg out fucking Tripple X, and then when that deal goes south they fall back on some girly looking cowboy from a HBO show. Seriously, look at the preview – Timmy the Elephant kinda looks like he should be in a boy band, and not in a contract killing business.

Bateson on the other hand was supposedly the model for 47 – the character was designed based on him. The bold head, the voice – Bateson is 47. And if you can’t have him, then at least get Jason Satham. After all the original Transporter movie was nothing more than a blatant Hitman ripoff. Satham has the look – and the voice is close enough.

Sigh… I’m still gonna watch it when it comes out. I love the Hitman games so I will probably be horribly disappointed by the movie. But I will watch it, and rant about it nevertheless.

As a Dutchman, I have to admit I’m not familiar with Timothy Olyphant (although the name is funny since, by the same pronunciation, “olifant” really does mean elephant in Dutch). That said, the trailer shows the movie to be astonishingly similar to the games, which I find amazing. The music, the shots and the general feel conform exactly to the Hitman series. So far, I can only place Sin City on the list of movies to respectfully stick to its origin even though I’m not really into that kind of story. Although many movies improve on their origins, most tear them apart in the hopes that it’s a pinata with a Hollywood story inside, leaving me with a special spot in my movie collection for every one that keeps to the point. I’m pleasantly surprised by this trailer and I hope they didn’t just splice up the movie to make the trailer that appealing to the fans.

Granted, they did capture the look and feel of the game in this trailer. They even got the music right. Although I do fear that this is just bunch of fan-service hype. They release a cool trailer to get the gaming fans going, and start hyping it up on the blogs – free publicity. And the movie may still turn out to be a Holywood summer pulp kind of a thing. Let’s not forget that Vin Diesel was supposed to play the lead role.

As for movies that stayed true to the originals:

    1. Sim City
    2. 300
    3. Lord of the Rings

LOTR did have some annoying departures from the books, but for the most part it was close enough.

“Sim City” at number one is a nice freudian slip!

I was going to say “300” as well, and I admit I loved the movie and the production but a lot of the story was scrapped for longer battles. It really did a great of capturing the whole feel of the book, though.

Since we’re on to “graphic novels” anyway, I should add “V for Vendetta”. Somehow the whole story managed to fit in a movie, even taking much of the scrpit quite literally from the novel. I actually only noticed this a few weeks ago when I stumbled upon the book in a store.

By the way, you’re probably right about the Hitman attempt to get free positive press but I can still hope…

LOL! I haven’t even played Sim City in years.

And yes, V for Vendetta was supposedly close too – but I never read the graphic novel so I didn’t have the comparison. I also heard that Hellboy was not that bad – but again, I haven’t really read any Hellboy stuff so I have no clue how close they got.

You know, it seems that we are slowly but surely figuring out how to make graphic novel, book and video game adaptations. Remember Masters of the Universe and Super Mario Bros? These movies failed in so man ways I can’t even count them. But they are getting better at it.

Oh shit! Brilliant! I need a “fuck counter” over here. I’m gonna put it in the sidebar and it’s gonna say “Luke said FUCK 1839384 times so far” – Wohoo!

I’m seriously doing this – I just need to figure out which tables do I need to query against.

Hmm… I think I should start running some sort of texttual analysis on my blog here, and see if sharp increases in the amount of profanities I post correlate to the more stressful periods in my life. It could be a cool experiment.

Actually, I should figure out what is the word I post the most here. I want to see my top 10 most commonly used words – and I want to see if #2 is Dafidil!

Timothy Olyphant is actually a very good actor. Ever seen the Girl Next Door?Well he was in that. Not to mention he’s the star of the oh so popular television series Deadwood-which is ringing around it’s fourth seaon.Olyphant is also the villian in Die Hard 4.And did anyone see Catch and Release ?I bet you can’t guess who was in that. And no, I did not IMDB.com Timothy Olyphant, I swear on my life I didn’t. He’s a talented actor and I actually think he was cast really well for this role. I think everyone should give Hitman a good chance because you have to admit, it actually dos look good.

Hehe, I see you really do like him Christina. I don’t doubt you just recited these from memory. :) I could probably do that for some of the less know actresses that I like.

I will give him a chance. It just seemed like a strange choice to me.
