Run away from dreamhost as fast as you can...unless you need the over-selling.

I personally use medialayer and I have never had a problem. (No affiliation between me and them other than a very happy customer to business relationship.)

The status has been updated, so I guess they successfully sent out their 1.25 million spam, err, email messages. Note, however, that they do not (ever) include the real reason why the problem happened in the first place.

@Matt` - Sorry about that. No clue why is it happening. Btw, I just got notified about your message here so it seems at least some of the notifications are going through. :)

Well I haven't been getting notifications for ages, so I won't notice :P

(It does work to my gmail address, and used to work to hotmail, I'm now used to not getting them, so don't worry about fixing anything.. already tried that a while back)
Well the comments there are pretty amusing
Dreamhoststatus.com comments are always fun - mainly because they don't read them (and tell you so right at the top of the blog). So it's just bunch of angry customers venting their frustration on each other bickering over who can be a bigger asshole.

I once wandered why they even allow comments on that blog. I figured they left them up out of laziness or something. Or to create an illusion of community. Now I think they have them there so that angry customers can go and scream at each other. Every angry post there is one less angry email to their support team.
Triple digits for load are not good….
Tell me about it. The only time I see the load drop to single digits is in the first 15 minutes after the damn server went down and got rebooted.. Sigh...

Dreamhost sucks x2

My server has been under extremely heavy load lately, high enough to prevent outside communication many times. In fact, in the last seven days, it's been unreachable for over 6 hours total, with problems every single day. I've contacted support and the most helpful thing was "sorry" and the least was one of their people pointing me to a cluster move on their status page that has nothing to do with the server I am on. Triple digits for load are not good....

My plan was to have my custom blog software written in time for my account expiration at DH so that the transfer would be clean and easy. Now I am starting to think that my semi-frequent restarts of nginx for testing would cause less blog downtime than keeping it on the DH server and dealing with their continual problems.

Well the comments there are pretty amusing ;)

For the abusive folks on this discussion who think that this kind of service should be expected and think we’re just whiners - grow up and take a shower. You’re amateurs, and have no business telling people who are trying to use Dreamhost for commercial purposes what to think. If Dreamhost really doesn’t want to provide commercial-quality services, then they should say so. They should just say “Cheap but undependable”, and let the nintendo-nerds and school-boys subscribe to their services.

And btw thanks for Co.mments.com I think I'm going to start using it. I comment occasionally on a few blogs that don't e-mail ya and occasionally on a random blog I probably never visit again. lol One of them tho personally writes me an e-mail every time I comment I presume he does it for all comments. I find that kind of odd but it does add a personal touch to commenting there. Still that could end up very time consuming. lol
