www.combatgrounds.com/page.php?id=697898 is a great game. It has been going for 3 years. It is text based but there are alot of stratagy's you have to go through. when you get to be a top player there are also alot of polotics. For the top 5 players you get medals on your profile and you get turns (the more turns you have the more you can do). If you take 1st place you can win up to $2000!

You speak the truth. :(
I don't know which version I have but the walking naked nymphs was a turn on for me. Haha, well anyway, regardless of which game version you take, I'd advise you to wait 2-3 months for a new version of the game, I think they call it, Special Edition or something. It contains a lot of new models(-- you run into a lot of same-faced npcs that its annoying), revamped pixels, promises of lesser load times, they also said something about re-doing the voice-overs. Which was a good idea. There was this part where, I talked to a scared npc and I took on a nice guy approach, so yeah the when I did that, the voice was nice and all and mellow, a bit of empathy without losing his cold masculinity, but then when he asked "how" or "why", I was shocked since it seemed he slammed his voice at the poor npc for no apparent reason. Oh well, I guess the just re-used a lot of lines from previous takes. Good luck with your game.

@Alphast - Morrowind FTW!

@Adam - the Witcher looks great, especially since I read the novels (well, not all of them and not in order but hey...). I actually want the game with the original Polish version because I heard the US release got so badly censored half of the game makes no sense. :)

You should try the game: The Witcher. All the recent rpg games pales in comparisson to this in my opinion. And I am in fact a single-player RPG fanatic. So pretty much when I played this, everything else became... well just see for yourself. :)

Hi Luke,

Same for my Morrowind: both two expensions, loads of mods (but absolutely none which unbalances the game). And I play just a little bit every week or month, so I actually never finishes the main quest either. I love all the secondary quests way too much.

I suggest you visit my site for RPG classic games. I am collecting RPG classic style games and providing free downloads for everyone.

Now, you don't have to search for classic RPGs over the internet because I'm compiling them under one roof. It isn't complete yet but I have uploaded about 10 games at least.

Thanks... Hope this helps...

@Teague - I heard good things about Planescape and I think I just saw a torrent on mininova

@Malachite - heh, I saw that image before. I guess now I need to experience why is it true. :P

@Muhammad - I read Shamus' review of Echalon but it didn't really make me want to play it. I don't know why. It just seemed a bit generic. Go figure.

Depths of Peril sounds kinda promising.

Btw, thanks for the link to the Oldblivion mod. I wonder if it will let either me or my brother run the game on our aged machines. It would be awesome if it worked.

@Alphast - I still play Morrowind too. I actually own both the expansions, and my copy is always heavily modded (better bodies, better heads, world of faces etc...).

Embarassing detail: I have never finished it. :( I just always get bogged down in details - I tend to take over a leadership of a guild or two, build the mansion and max out 2 or 3 of my key attributes before I even start thinking about the main mission. One day I will beat it, and then there will still be like millions of things to do.

My brother's character actually has a rocket-louncher ring - it fires a fireball which has the maximum allowed radius of effect. He enters Balamora, fires one off and everyone you can see on the screen dies. :P

He plays more than me.

@coaster - I think I actually saw this site before. I might have tried one or two of the games listed there but none really captured my interest. Thanks for the link though. :)

Apart from my serious addiction to Morrowind (still playing it after 6 years...), I must confess a good addiction to the Dungeon Siege series as well as the various mods created for it. It is a bit repetitive, but the hack and slash does include some dialogs, character upgrading, multiple quests, etc. And the management of several characters is really well made.

I should also mention a very ugly but very addictive game: Soldiers of Anarchy. Ok, it is more of a tactical game than a real RPG (apart from the use of the homonymic equipment), but there is also some character upgrading and a nic plot. And if you like good metal, the music is pretty ok. But the graphic design is antique at best. It is 3D, but barely better than BG.

Depths of Peril is supposed to be a fantastic game. It won RPG of the year in 2007 and was the #2 game of the year in 2007 over at Game Tunnel. I actually have the demo downloaded and have yet to play it.
