Sorry about the Social Media Widgets

If you ever visit this site directly (rather than viewing it through an RSS reader) you may have noticed that I added Facebook Like and Google +1 buttons on the individual post pages. I know that a lot of people find these sort of thing grating, and I apologize. It’s not that I suddenly became a fan of “social media integration” type stuff. I just noticed that sometimes these things may help you get some exposure. These days having your post “liked”, “+1’d” or tweeted is sort of tantamount to word of mouth promotion.

These little buttons are rather unobtrusive, they don’t make you log in, they don’t track you – they are just there. Feel free to ignore them. But if they can grant me a few extra hits from your social circle, then then having them is worth it. So if you do have a social networking account, and you do share interesting links with friends from time to time, I would be grateful if you would hit that like or +1 button from time to time. Only on the posts you really like of course.

Oh, and this does not count as a Monday post. It is a spur of the moment Sunday thing, so a regular post is going to go up tomorrow morning as usual.

Hmm, not wishing to complain, but viewing this through my RSS reader, I have those buttons floating on top of the edge of the main column.

I have my reader set to load the full page rather than just the feed contents (I read a lot of comics, clicking through to see the image every time is tedious) but it reduces the available width to the point where it pushes what ought to be a floating sidebar on top of the text.

    @ Matt`:

I assume this is the issue with Google +1 button which I set to float on the left side. I changed it to be underneath the post, right under the Facebook button. Let me know if it is better.

Actually this page is probably cashed in your reader now, and also in WP-Cache so see how it looks on the Monday post. :)

    @ Matt`:

Btw, may I ask what RSS reader are you using that does this “load full page” sorcery?

    @ JMoney$:

I LOL’d at JMoney$. Although if you really wanted to Ke$ha it up, while keeping it short, sweet and classy (and by classy I mean the opposite of classy) you could just do J$$$. Sort of the same thing. Just less typing and more cash. :P

Also, how hilarious is it that I still show up as using Netscape when I comment on your site via Reeder? Very hilarious.

Really? Your middle name is Jean? Jenn Jean? Actually, it kinda goes together.

Mine is Grzegorz which is like Gregory only with extra z’s all over. :)

Also, the browser info detection plugin is making wild guesses at this point because the maintainer has not released an update in like 3 years. I may need to go in add new browser definitions myself one day.
