Has this ever happened to you?

I can’t tell you how many times this has happened to me:

I’m horrible when it comes to remembering people’s names and other details about them. I took quite a few classes during my college career, taught one of my own for 4 semesters, and did a TA gig for two. During that time I have met tons of people who I didn’t really get to know that much. But every once in a while this happens to me. Someone bumps into me on campus and I have no clue who it is. That is, I usually know I have met this person in the past, but I can’t figure out where, and how.

Oh, and if we were introduced once, there is almost a zero chance that I will remember your name, unless of course you are a really cute chick and I make a conscious effort to actually try to memorize your name. In that case the chances of me remembering are roughly 37.5%.

Of course the worse thing is when I get a phone call at work. The main desk redirects it, and they tell me that they have so and so on the line. So I pick up and then I spend 40 minutes on the phone, hang up and go: “who the fuck did I just talk to?”. I do that regularly.

Intelligent Warming

I don’t know about you but I find this amusing (and relevant to the current political situation):

I think US is the only country in the world in which vast numbers of citizens do not believe in both global warming and evolution. How sad is that?

Actually, it’s going better than this. I’m really close to finishing it. I just got back the revisions from my ultra-pre-alpha rough draft, and it has very few changes that need to be made. Just move few things around, change some section titles, add few references, make a transitional paragraph or two here and there, and correct grammar and spelling.

Speaking of spelling, I had the following sentence in there:

Feature extraction ass applied in Hyperspectral imaging field, roughly consists of two separate but related problems: dimensional reduction and spectral unmixing.

Stupid spellchecker! Why can’t the damn thing read my mind and correct my papers based on what I meant to say. mrgreen
