I never use screen outside of an ssh connection, but I use it almost daily over ssh.

I have a headless server in my apartment that I connect to from several different computers. I use screen to carry a session around with me. I might ssh in from work, fire it up screen, start running a long compilation, detach, disconnect, go home, ssh from my laptop, attach and keep doing what I was doing.
