@ Not ASCII art at all:
Actually I’m not sure what they did to it here but this picture was originally done around 1995 and it was actually text. They didn’t have JPG to ASCII pictures back then. At the time these were pretty impressive but you’re correct, nowadays it’s not too big a deal considering the tools available now.

I saw one once which was a massive close up of the Joker with his hands tangled in his hair. I was impressed by it. (I hope it wasn’t a scan and translate job) and have been trying to find it ever since!

@Not ASCII art at all: Actually, it’s even simpler than that. There is software out there that will take a JPG or PNG file and output something like the stuff above. It takes 5 seconds.

Not ASCII art indeed.

Uh… that isn’t even close to impressive – guess how they did it?

1. typed a bunch of random 1’s and 0’s.
2. Made the 1’s and 0’s transparent, background black.
3. pasted the entire thing over a picture of whatever they wanted.

Takes about 2 minutes.

[…] Recently I posted two impressive pieces of ASCII art. I thought they were really cool, but I doubted they were created by hand. I just found it hard to believe that anyone would spend hours on end, tweaking the color codes on font tags of each character of the page. It just didn’t seem possible. […]
