I got pretty pissed. I working in a spry menu in dreamweaver cs3 for a client and the god damn thing dosent even work in explorer 7. WTF!!

I’m coding a new theme for my blog…and well IE6 and 7 require a user agent hack to display two different CSS files one for normal browsers and one for IE. It’s fucking annoying and pathetic.

I’m not looking forward to dealing with all of the whining people who are going to call me when the change is made. I work with a lot of people who are going to be very annoyed when this change happens, and haven’t lifted a finger to see if their sites are going to have any trouble. I think I’m going to take a few days off, starting on the day this changeover happens.

Firms not ready to install IE7 will be able to temporarily block the update.

Heh… But that’s kinda cheating. :P

Besides, our sucky time/expense tracking system is IE only, and uses ActiveX for everything. If you log into it in Firefox, you bassically see a blank page with an array of disorganized iframes. It’s a piece of shit, and we are currently shopping for a replacement – but for the time being they need to use it daily.

So I would have to set up the IE Tab extension on each of the computers, and make sure that our time tracking system always opens using IE rendering engine…

a good trick for that is to remove all IE icons and give firefox the IE icon :-P
most of your “dumb” users won’t even see the difference ;-)

Well, it will eventually become the norm. When Vista finally rolls out, most new computers will have it preinstalled by default. At some point the number of vista installations will reach critical mass for web designers, and application makers to require it.

Think about how many things right now require IE6 to work properly – some software actually ships with IE6 nowadays because they rely on some libraries that are bundled with it. The same thing will happen to IE7. It will slowly gain market share till it becomes dominant.

In the meantime though, fuck it. :mrgreen:

I kinda have to test in IE because 99% of my user base is to dumb to figure out what firefox is even though each company laptop comes preinstalled with it. Most people are just to afraid to click on that “fox fire” icon even when I explain to them that this is a better, more secure browser… eh…
