Yup, when you weigh the annoyance it causes against the actual security benefit for *you* it just doesn’t make sense.

Then again, when I set up a computer for my dad to use, I did set him up as user. Since I’m the one who patches it, installs software and etc, he might as well be a little bit more protected against rogue drive-by-installs on the internet out there.

I tried this once and very quickly realised how often I do low-level admin stuff.

I don’t have so much in the way of automated updates or other automatic things, so I guess it would really be more a case of learning a quick way to elevate myself in all the various situations, but I decided that since I haven’t seen any virus infections for ages it was easier just to carry on as I was
