Actually, many of the times I have needed cdburn, downloading a 500K package fit better with my i-just-need-it-now requirements, but I thought the resource kit was larger than that (and download speeds have kept going up …)

Yah, but then again the resource kit is official MS release while XPCreate is not. And 11 MB is actually not that big. :)

I originally got the cdburn and dvdburn programs as part of the xpcreate package, which should be smaller and easier to use than the windows resource kit.

For burning .ISOs (and only .ISOs), you should use cdburn.exe or dvdburn.exe. They’re all of 15kb apiece, and I’ve never had a problem with any burner.

They don’t care what model of drive you’ve got, they just work. I’ve had Roxio crap out because it didn’t recognise my drive even when updated (when windows natively burned to it fine), and plenty of problems with Ahead, Sonic, and the other one that name brand OEMs like to use (can’t recall it’s name). When I’ve had a problem burning an .ISO, I use cdburn and it just works™. Command line, two arguments (where the .iso is and where you want it to go) and you’re done.

I got my copies off a friend, but I believe they’re part of the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit and they work fine on XP. Admittedly it doesn’t verify that I’m aware of, but I guess I’ve been lucky so far.

@jambarama – check the comment directly above yours. I upgraded Nero to the newer version, then rebooted the system and the issue went away. At least for now. Not sure what was the problem, but for some reason I’m not getting the errors now.

Yeah so I had almost identical errors on Nero. Burning would always get partway done, then just die. I never did fix the problem, it didn’t seem to be software – isorecorder, nero windows, nero linux, k3b, and some other linux burning software all would fail in the same way at different times throughout the process. I suspected hardware (starforce was my best guess) but both my internal and external burners would fail the same way. However it was only on CDs, my external burner could still (and can still) burn DVDs just fine. I wonder how it’d do on another computer…

Since I have a fair number of drives and computers lying around, I just burn CDs from my laptop, not my desktop–it works fine.

So good luck. I’d guess memory was a good idea, but for me I haven’t had literally any other problems, so I don’t think it is memory in my case. Write a follow up post if you would on whether you figured it out, and what it was.

Well, what do you know. The issue solved itself. I rebooted windows, upgraded Nero and I no longer get burn errors. Go figure.

@Ricardo the current up-to-date version I have right now is Nero OEM 6.6.1.15. I think it was 6.6.1.14 or 13 before. Not a big difference, but it could have been the issue here.

Or windows just needed a reboot. Who knows. I’m happy I can burn ISO’s again. :)

On Windows, I always use InfraRecorder. Maybe you should give it a try.

This may sound very basic but it’s always good to ask: Which Nero version are you using? Have you checked the Internet for possible updates and/or patches?
