Ah okay, I thought you might have known, but then again, sometimes people have no idea about random stuff.

@Allan – of course I know about that. In fact, I was living in Poland back then. I was 6, and the doctors recommended to give children Lugol’s Iodine solution as a prophylactic measure against accumulation of radioactive iodine-131 in the thyroid.

I’m naturally talking about the annomalies and the artifacts. I think some review mentioned that STALKER takes place in the future after the fictional second Chernobyl catastrophe or something like that.

As for backstory… Ever heard of the nuclear power plant disaster at Chernobyl?
A nuclear reactor exploded and spewed radiation everywhere, and the 30-kilometer “zone” was created to show where the radiation is the worst and is not supposed to be inhabited. This zone actually exists, but as for the anomalies and stuff in the game… that’s just their fictionalization of this.

@Ian – I’m mostly a casual gamer too. I usually only play few hours on the weekends and my hardware is obsolete. I’m definitely upgrading in 08, cause this machine doesn’t even have a PciE and I my mobo can’t figure out how to address more than 1GB of RAM. :(

@Mazro – heh, I’m Polish so I can actually understand some of what they are saying. I don’t speak any Ukrainian, but I there is some linguistic overlap there.

Btw, they really curse quite a bit in that game but English speakers won’t notice. ;)

Don’t worry, it’ll be much clearer in the end.

The sad thing is that I learned some ukrainian from playing this game.. Oh well, it’s fun no matter what :)

Whew, system requirements on games are pretty crazy these days. Ever since I became a “casual gamer” I have had no real reason to upgrade my computers, so quit trying to re-addict me! Quad core just $260… mmmm….
