I guess as an echo, as of this Christmas I now own my first console since SNES. I’ve only heavily played mario party 8, wii sports, & twilight princess. At friends houses I’ve played a variety of non-nintendo games. You’re right, when games try to be exacting in motions they’re unmanageable.

I’m not entirely sure the wii knows which way it is pointing (unless it can see the IR lights on the sensor bar), so that might explain the backwards swinging. But for the 3 games I’ve played a lot, I like the controls, and it is great to have a game system with a controller the misses can use.

The Wii was the first console I bought myself. The previous being a Sega Genesis from my parents when I was young. Most, not all, single player games on the Wii suck, but it certainly excels at parties. I have had a few Wii parties so far.

The motion sensor isn’t true 1-1 motion. Light saber duel games will have to wait for now. Nintendo had showcased (yet another) upcoming accessory, called the Wii MotionPlus, which will reportedly be bringing true 1-1 motion response.

I would agree that keeping the motions simple helps to simplify the gameplay, which makes it less intimidating to pick up and play. The Wii marked the first time my mum played a video game. Just Wii Sports, but it’s quite a very proud moment for me. :P
