@ theperfectnose:

Yep, that’s exactly the type I was talking about – sysadmins, programmers, etc.. I knew quite a few people like that who did not read, but were otherwise into same geeky stuff as me. Go figure.

I know one person that doesn’t read. He’s a sysadmin. Just doesn’t read. Weird but he’s a nice guy. Everyone else I know is into books.
Love Iain Banks but not a big fan of the gory stuff he does on a regular basis. Will check out Marooned in Real Time, it sounds interesting.

@ Sameer:

Heh, I know how you feel. But there is good stuff out there. You just have to keep in mind it’s not going to be as complex and awesome as Dune. :)

@ Ron:

Dune is an amazing series. It is pretty much the Lord of the Rings of science fiction.

Im only just getting back into reading, it seems without be being aware if become a creature of habbit, and as such I keep struggling to “make time” to read (its more like, O s**t thats the time, better sleep).

But ive stocked up on some of the classics Arthur Clarke, Issac Assimov. Picked up most of the discworld novels on trademe really cheaply a while back. Dune and some Heinlein are on the list to get.

Currently reading Snow Crash and loving it.

Glasshouse sounds interesting. I’ll see of I can find a copy. I’ve just finishes “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” by Stieg Larsson which was a decent and entertaining read. Not sure if I’m going to read the sequals.
I sometimes find it difficult to enjoy books after I read Dune. Frank Herbert pretty much spoiled me, particularly after “God Emperor of Dune”.
