Yeah, that title actually does kinda work. Polish title is a little bit less inventive, and includes less wordplay but also kinda works “Geneza Planety Małp” which as you probably figured out would be something like “Planet of the Apes: Genesis” in English.

Back in the day when I lived in Poland I always got annoyed at the weird title localization. Sometimes the translators would just go “fuck it” and pulled a title straight out of their ass.

The most infamous example of this was Die Hard series. The first movie completely stumped the localization team so they re-titled it as “Szklana Pułapka” which literally translates to “Glass Trap”. It is kinda awkward but actually sounds fine in Polish and at the time it made sense because the action of the movie took place in a glossy modern office skyscraper, and there were a lot of scenes featuring broken glass…

Of course no one anticipated multiple sequels, which featured no glass buildings – but they sort of continued the tradition. So in Poland “Live Free, Die Hard” was officially known as “Szklana Pułapka 4.0”.

I also remember laughing at posters for “Deep Impact” which was translated as “Dzień Zagłady” (eg. Doomsday).

Hmm, and here I am thinking that the german title was bad.
But “Planet of the Apes – Prevolution” actually sounds better. I’m somewhat amazed that they didn’t totally butcher this one…
