This book seems quite original and quite out there. Then again I haven’t really read anything else of his so I can’t say if it’s really formulaic. It does not seem that way though. :)

I stopped reading Bear because things started to feel really boring and formulaic, but given your recommendation I’ll give this one a go.

The only thing I’ve read by Bear was Eon and was eons ago. I might take a look into this one.
