I think anyone of about the right age could probably (with a little effort) dig up some old forum posts that they feel acutely embarassed to re-read. Fortunately the forum I had most of that on has since died/reincarnated without the old database.

Pretty sure there was eventually a turning point of sorts in my past online interaction, where I stop groaning at myself and start thinking “Nope, still stand by that”. Hopefully that’s something that sticks, rather than just a case of it being sufficiently recent that I still feel like that same person.

It’s really frightening how much of our memories are false. Personally I can’t wait for digitization. But I still wouldn’t delete my memories. World won’t forget what I do, why should I? Instead what I want is a better recall of memories, I want my personality to be unaffected by biased memory.

I’m not just fine with, but excited by the possibility, of using technology to enhance / support my memory. As long as I can keep an unedited branch under personally-controlled source control. :p

Seriously though, if and when this happens, the privacy / control / (government & corporate) access issues will make today’s privacy concerns seem like child’s play.
