Slightly odd bit of synchronicity: first time I heard of this story was when I read this post at lunchtime; second time was this evening, when I randomly picked up a scifi collection in the local library, and saw it in the table of contents.

Yeah, that’s him. Most writers have websites that have domain names like firsnamelastname.com – Charlie Stross uses antipope.org because he made a typo one time, was to lazy to change it and then accidentally got famous and decided not to mess with his Google page rank. :P
But yeah, his opinions can be all over the place. Most of the stuff he puts on the blog is very thought provoking though. His books are typically pretty good.
@ David Cress:
I think my favorite of his was Accelerando and Glashouse. I haven’t read any of the Loundry series yet because I got burned out on conspiracy stories around the time X-Files collapsed upon themselves and became a vortex of suck. :P I might check them out one day though because I do like his writing style.
]]>Charles Stross’s book have been all over the place for me. Halting State was great but the followup, Rule 34, I’m having problems wading through it. As for Saturn’s Children, it’s not bad. It’s not like I felt ripped off for spending a few hours reading it.
His best work by far for me is the Laundry series. Cthulhu intersects our world through computers and advanced mathematics. The writing holds your attention, draws you into his world while displaying British humor to it’s best.
]]>hahaha ‘pants literally fall off’ XD I started reading Charlie’s diary a while ago. Is this the same author? I’m assuming it is. He has some awesome things to say and sometimes his words leave me cold/indifferent. Seems like a cool dude though. I too avoid things with too much cleavage. For no other reason that if that has to be a draw then clearly there is little else of value in there.. XD
]]>@ Matt`:
Heh, sorry about the disappointing twist ending to my post. I guess this was kinda like watching M. Night Shyamalan movie eh? :P
]]>Oh the disappointment of reading about a story, thinking it does indeed sound awesome then discovering at the end of the review that you’ve already read it…
