Thanks for pointing me there, Luke.
I read the (20)first part, then the second, then the third and noticed that I was enjoying it not only because of being a sf-setting but especially because of the “alien” aliens.

I bought the first TPB based on your review and I am really loving it. The story and worldbuilding is filled to the brim with crazy/awesome ideas and the artwork really fits the style. In fact it reminds me a bit of this: http://killsixbilliondemons.com/?comic=kill-six-billion-demons-chapter -1

i did read that 21st issue. Since it contained no real story (it was too short for that) and the art wasn’t outstanding i’m not that intrigued to spend my money on more of that.
In short: i found it pretty underwhelming.

Perhaps i’m spoiled by all those free and really good webcomics out there…

examples:
* two kinds
* goblinscomic
* freefall
* Darths & Droids
* looking for group / least i could do
* questionable content
* gone with the blastwave
* altermeta
* weregeek
* inverloch/seraph-inn
* postnukecomic
* oglaf
(and many more, some pretty NSFW)

most of those aren’t that much a single story but contain short garfield-like joke-panels as well. Some are no longer continued. But i discover one of those all 1-2 Weeks and click through it in some days. Then i add it to my feedreader and it contributes to my regular dose of fun.

Still… some of them (two kinds, goblins, even freefall isn’t free of it) contain pretty decent and complex stories and concepts.

So, I read the first issue (well, the 21st) yesterday, and I was sure I recognized those panels, particularly the inventory (which caught my eye back then); I had seen it back in 2011 on warrenellis.com, before I even had a proper comics reading device.

It really is very good, so thanks for the suggestion!

Great, thanks for the suggestion. And I definitively agree on the digitalization of comics – especially since around here, there’s probably one or two shops with Image Comics in the whole country!

By the way, if you want a short (5 issues) story, Planetoid is nice, though not particularly mind-expanding.
