Yeah, it starts a little cold, and it takes the book a number of pages to actually start rolling. The strangeness creeps in slowly at first, but then once the kid wakes up choking because a strange coin has magically materialized in his mouth it ramps up fast. :) The tone is markedly different from American Gods and the like though.

Much love for Neil Gaimain (Neverwhere: awesome, American Gods: super cool, Good Omens: so much fun). Found it a bit difficult to get stuck into Ocean at the End of the Lane though. Ended up stopping after not terribly far in and just didn’t get around to picking it back up.

Probably just need to take another run at it when I’m in a slightly different state of mind.
