Everybody plays games, but not everybody consider them a part of their life. A part of their identity. If you
think games are part of who you are, then you might consider yourself a gamer. That’s the only requisite and I don’t think it matters if you play walking simulators or you’re a hardcore CS:GO player.

As with anything self appointed, don’t take the gamer tag too seriously. The only thing it should mean is that you care about games.

I’d argue that a “gamer” is the opposite of “casual”, meaning people who play videogames regularly for more than 1-2h per day and/or People who are obsessive about games.
Of course there can’t be a hard rule to determine who is and who isn’t. But who would need such a thing? For what?

There isn’t a clear description who is a ‘cinemaniac’ either. Don’t we all watch Movies? How about music-nerds?

It’s just another description of another subtype of geek/nerd. Get over it!

BTW: i’m probably none of those 3 types, at least not anymore.
