Have you noticed this too?
Take an intelligent, well rounded person who has great problem solving skills. For example, someone whose job is to solve difficult problems – a consultant, chem researcher, a doctor, a director of some sort.
Now sit this person at a computer. As soon as there is even a slightest irregularity in the way their machine works this brilliant person all of a sudden starts acting as if they have suffered full frontal lobotomy.
Problem solving skills, and common sense vanish only to be replaced by some kind of primal, savage stupidity. A great deal of end user problems could be solved by applying common sense and spending 3 minutes googling around.
I really don’t blame people who don’t use computers on a daily basis for this. For example, my dad has little or no use for a computer. He likes to play strategy games from time to time, but other than that he barely knows how to turn the damn thing on. But that’s ok – he just does not have enough experience in these things. But if you use a computer as a tool for your work, then you should really know at least a little bit about how they work.
Seriously, it is actually possible to apply a common sense solution to a technology related problem. This might be a shocker for some people, but really – it’s true.
why do they call it common sense if not many people have it?
Yeah, exactly.
But seriously, allot of people do have it. They are just not using it when confronted it with technology for some reason.
