Bush didn’t know there are two major sects of Islam

Bush

Throughout the planing stages of Iraqi war, Bush administration was completely oblivious to the fact that there are two distinct sects of Islam that do not get along that well. Allegedly, when someone tried to explain to him the difference between Sunni and Shiite factions, bush intelligently responded: “I thought the Iraqis were Muslims!”

No one in Washington ever stopped to think about the fact that Iraqi population is composed of Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish groups that hate eachothers’ guts. No one even cared! The plan was not to liberate Iraq, or to bring change to the middle east. This shit was always about removing unstable region leader, and sit the Oil and make money. The local culture and potential political conflicts among native population did not even figure in US invasion and occupancy plans.

Tell, me – why can’t we just let the three distinct groups to negotiate, split the land among each other and create independent states? Maybe they would be better of as neighbors, rather than roommates? But of course, that’s not a good solution for US Oil Companies. If we want to control Iraqi oil, we must keep it as a single state.

One Response to Bush didn’t know there are two major sects of Islam

  1. Good point about keeping Iraq together. And if there was ever any doubt about it being for oil, just take a look at the original draft of the 1992 Wolfowitz Doctrine which the current Bush Administration seems to be using as a script.
