Holly freakin batman! [tag]MGM[/tag] wants to hire [tag]Peter Jackson[/tag] to do a [tag]Hobbit[/tag] movie! Jackson apparently haven’t been approached about this yet which is kinda odd. But he did say at one time or another that he would love to do Hobbit movie given a chance.
If they get Jackson and relevant [tag]LOTR[/tag] cast members to participate, and stay as close to the book as LOTR did then this might be one awesome movie.
Without a girly-boy Legolas, and perpetually unshaved Strider to have all the good lines, Jackson will have to use [tag]Dwarf[/tag] characters for more than just cheep comic relief. It would be nice to see the bearded folk get a share of the spotlight and grow into interesting characters for once. Poor Gimli pretty much ended up being an unwilling sidekick to the Elf-boy in LOTR movies.

Freakin SWEET!
The hobbit is awesome 8)
only 3 common characters with LOTR (bilbo, gandalf, gollum) and only 2 that will look the same as in LOTR
so a brand shiny new cast of dwarf-like people :D
+ some elves (oo.. elrond might be in this one as well, make that 4 common characters)
+ a guy who turns into a bear
+ some ogres and goblins
+ a bunch of spiders
+ some men
+ a dragon (woohoo, dragon!)
… I can remember this book too well, I hope they do it well, otherwise itd be kinda disappointing
And there is the battle of 5 armies – a huge battle scene to top it all off.
and some stuff with giant spiders too :D
hehe.. i told my dad about the movie and he was really happy (LOTR/Hobbit fan) until i reminded him about the spiders (hes also an arahnophobe)
He’s still happy but i think before we see it he’ll have to re-read the book so he knows when to close his eyes for a bit
wonder if theyll have the actor who played gimli as any of the dwarves… dunno if thatd be good or not :?
Wasn’t Gloin Gimli’s father or something? I don’t remember, but I think they were related. So yeah, they could reuse the actor and just change up his makeup a bit. After all the would be some family resemblance there..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balin_(Middle-earth)
some strange person writes biographies for fantasy characters… actually make that a LOT of strange people. Useful when you want to know something like this though
according to the family tree at the bottom gimli is the son of gloin, one of the dwarves in the hobbit, and gimlis great grandfather is balins grandfather, so they are related (they all seem to be related one way or another)
in the movie gimli describes balin as his cousin, probably meant as in “member of the family, but not direct enough to have a different word :P )
also in the films, gimli takes balin’s axe with him out of moria, not mentioned in the book (not noticeable in the movie unless youre watching with a geek’s eyes  )
No wonder it was not very noticeable. Now if it was Legolas recovering some cool artifact…
Sigh… I was reading some forum a while back and they had a Legolas vs. Gimli poll. It was funny to see how all the people who only saw the movie would say Legolas would kill the dwarf in seconds without even breaking a sweat.
On the other hand most people who read the books admitted that it would probably be a very close match with Legolas having an edge from a distance, and Gimli being in close quarters.
Sure, Elves in Middle Earth are powerful, but you can never underestimate a seasoned dwarf warrior in a full armor, and with a mithril axe. :)
I dont want to get into a geeky “who could beat up who” discussion, (especially since the fight in question wouldnt happen cause theyre friends) but if they were at a distance, legolas could probably drop gimli with one arrows :P
close quarters, a dwarf with a large axe would be very formidable, not sure what kind of swords/knives legolas was carrying but i have a feeling that they wouldnt really compare to the big-ass axe
