I dumped Amazon Ads

As you may have noticed I removed the amazon ads from the main page and individual blog posts. The reason was two fold – first, they created visual clutter, and second, they were completely useless. At least adsense tries to serve ads relevant to the topic. Amazon was almost always displaying random bizarre shit.

It also didn’t earn me any money. Not one cent. So screw it. I dumped them for some more Adsense here and there. The blog should end up looking a wee bit cleaner.

If you want to show me some love, go click on some of the ads. ;)

Here is an interesting observation: the large square ad panels are much better at serving up relevant content than the banners. They almost always have something that’s on topic, while the banner on top of the pages often gives me some rather generic stuff. Go figure.

Also the ads on the front page are almost all generic crap because the topics of my posts are totally random and incoherent. :P

  1. I only ran a few Amazon ads on an old blogger site I had. Never saw a penny either. I think I’ve earned just over five bucks total from AdSense too so money isn’t the reason I’m blogging. :-)

I really don’t get much from AdSense either. Since I started using it I earned around $60. I haven’t seen a penny of it yet, because Google will ony sends out checks for $100+. It will be few more months till I get there.

So I’m definitely not racking up any big money here. But if the few bucks that do trickle in, will help out to pay the hosting bill for few months so it works out. :)

Plus it’s fun to watch how each day there are few more cents added to my earnings.

    You have ads?….

maybe the lowliness of your advertising income stems from the high proportion of Firefox users who come here and have adblock on

(or maybe adverts just don’t work very well)

Nah, I think it’s low traffic. The more traffic you get, the more dumb IE users stumble upon your site and start clicking shit. :P

Unfortunately, I mercilessly make fun of dumb ie users, and do all sorts of things to offend them. I think most of people who read this blog regularly know better than to click on ads. :)

The clicks I get are usually from random googlers who stumble upon this site searching for specific topics.
