I just added some new features for your convenience. I added “quicktags” to the comment form, so that you don’t have to type HTML in the box anymore. And you can easily post a link, without having to type out the whole href tag.
Second feature I added is the “Quote” link. You will notice that right after the quicktags there is a “[Quote Selected]” link. It does exactly what it says it will do. Select some text on the page, hit the link, and it will be pasted into your comment in a nice quotation bracket.
Furthermore, each post now has a [Quote] link right next to the date and time when it was posted. You can use it to simply quote the whole comment.
This will hopefully help tracking long discussions. Personally I don’t like threaded comments (like on Live Journal) – I don’t think they really facilitate good discussion. Single threads with some quoting where appropriate is the way to go IMHO.
Anyways, I hope you like these. Feel free to disagree on the “threaded comments” thing. I would love to hear your thoughts on this, and discuss it further. :)

Wow far out and thanks!! A few much needed improvements. I hate threated comments much prefer a simple thread kinda thing. That’s my opinion at least. Probably won’t use your html buttons tho too used to just typing it in, tho maybe I’ll give them a try one day just to see if they work. haha. I do like the quote thing tho, way cool and definitely needed. Now if ya could just allow editing latter, hmm maybe a good idea maybe not? But it would be nice to correct a few typos now and then for ppl like me too lazy to preview or too spazzed out to notice the typo till latter. lmao.

Hmm… Here is the thing: most people comment just by typing in their email and name into the fields. There is no real authentication so anyone who knows your email would be able to edit your comment.
It might be possible to enable editing for registered users though… I might need to look into it.
That’s a good point on anyone editing who knows e-mail address. Would not be a problem for me tho, I use too many e-mail addresses and really only friends know this one, the one i use here i use only for friends or for certain spam free very select web sites. Ya don’t spam me so… lmao. Most of my friends are not “computer people” and only two of my friends read this blog that I know of and i seriously doubt they would edit anything I posted. They would of course know starhawk is me as that is the name i use in new agey hippie spiritual type crowds and as well as online. Still I see your point :)
oooh.. buttons
I like :)
I agree on threaded discussion – it always seems to lead to confusing me when I read a thing, a reponse to the thing, another response to the thing, a response to that response, maybe a whole chain of responses to that little bit of the conversation, then back to people answering the original thing
Head go ‘splodey :(
and if this now ends up showing twice, its ’cause the page didn’t update with my post on it the first time
It did show up twice. I deleted the first comment and left the second one.
Akismet somehow decided you were spamming. No clue what it was thinking. :|
Who ever knows what Akismet is thinking… only Akismet
hehe, Akismet sounds like the name of some sort of pagan God
I like your little raised-eyebrow man.. how do you type him?
(Here’s hoping that this post does not anger the great and terrible Akismet)
I think it’s collon and the pipe character | :|

sorry i just wanted to quote someone
LOL!
hehe, fair enough, feel free to quote me whenever you want (within reason – if I say something stupid I don’t want to see it on a billboard)
now.. colon-pipe eh.. :|
wheeee! :|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|
oh.. only the first one worked
and this is why previewing is a good idea
I think there must be space between them.

:D I THINK I FOUND A BUG!
Ack! Not cool! Come on, play nice!
I took down all the formating from your second comment for the sake of layout. It was looking pretty ugly. But yes, it can be abused.
But it’s not really a bug in the quote plugin. You could easily do the same thing using straight blockquotes and code tags which are btw explicitly allowed in this form. I think the only way to prevent this is to strip the css from these tags and assign them ugly zero margins and padding. :(
