Has anyone seen Transformers yet? Let’s discuss. The previews made it look much more of an “edge of your seat” kind of movie. It was not. It’s a light hearted pulp flick with large dose of humor. It was pretty much the quintessential summer movie: tons of CGI, loads of cheap laughs, pop culture references abound, annoying mini-transformer doing silly Jar Jar shtick, Bernie Mac makes a cameo appearance, and of course geeky high school kid wins the heart of a popular girl and saves the planet. You know – the usual stuff.
One thing bothers me. Why did they insist on giving Optimus Prime lips? I can understand why they wanted to make Bumblebee a Camaro or why Megatron doesn’t transform into a pistol. But you’d think they would at least keep the unique, iconic characteristic that makes Optimus instantly recognizable. It’s kinda like that scene from the Familly Guy:
“What tattoo do you want? I can do Kermit the Frog.”
“I want a flaming skull.”
“Ok, I’m going to do Kermit the Frog”
Hard core transformers fans should probably stay clear of it unless they can stomach all these changes and inconsistencies. This adaptation was done the old school way. The new way, pioneered by LOTR, and perfected by Sin City and 300 emphasizes staying true to the original. The old school style is to take the names, and general concept from the original, then change everything, write a new story, jazz it all up, and take it to the extreme 90’s style. And this is exactly what was done here.
The end result of this treatment is not that bad. It just doesn’t feel like transformers – it feels like you are watching a typical summer blockbuster with a transformers theme. I was not impressed by the movie, but was not horribly disappointed either. It was enjoyable and amusing.
What did you think about it? Did you like it? Hate it?
Btw, what do you think about Megan Fox? She doesn’t really do anything for me. Sure she has a nice body – I’d hit that and etc, but – meh. Not crazy about her.

But remove the brand title and lets call this movie “Car Robot Chaanging Things” would it be a good movie?
As I said – typical summer pulp movie. Lot’s of CGI, large dose of situational humor, pop culture references, some ethnic humor here and there, more CGI, big explosions, giant robots kicking the shit out of each other and a boy meets girl to top it all off.
All in all, entertaining but simplistic, predictable and without any kind of depth or reflection.
Btw, I saw a trailer for I am Legend with Will Smith, and that looks pretty awesome.
I’d hit her too btw.
I’d probably have to be pretty bored to watch the Transformers, I really didn’t even care for the cartoon. But I am Legend now hell yeah. I love movies based on classic books regardless of the fact they usually disappoint me. But in the case of I am legend its been shit over 2 decades most likely since I read it. I might have read it several times when I was young but i barely remember the basics of the plot. Vampires springs to mind, hmmm probably not as good as Ann Rices shit btw. But yeah i wanna see it regardless of the fact I never really liked Will Smith much.
Hmm Megan Fox is a pretty enough girl I suppose but compared to the kinda beauty one sees on TV and in the movies she really doesn’t stand out. Other’n that I don’t much about her.
Ah, I just looked it up, and you are right. The book was about vampires. They didn’t show any of them in the trailer though. They just showed Will Smith wandering around the desolated ruins of New York, alone while some eerie music was playing. Then he was walking around some dark corridor with a flashlight and heard weird grunts and weird sound like an animal gnawing on a bone or something. So he shines the flashlight at the source of the noise, and goes “WTF”?
Then they fade to black, and leave you with the tagline “the last man on earth, is not alone”. It looked really good.
That cracked me up Luke. I knew it was about vampires really if i remember correctly its kind of a disease. I was a kid when I first read the book but I read it more than once even a few times as an adult. lol. I remember thinking it was a bit pulpish in style and i think i liked it better as a kid, haha. But yeah I’ll watch it when it comes out on DVD or something sounds good to me :D
Just saw transformers myself and it was full of plot holes, which is okay because they then filled those holes with corn.
It was fun for what it was, but I really, really wish I could’ve fast-forwarded the ‘geeky teenager getting to show his sensitive side to the pretty girl’ bit. I also preferred the beaten-up camero, since it had character and didn’t look like it was carved out of plastic.
Refridgeron and Magnimus
Refridgeron and Magnimus 2
LOL! Redridgetron!
True the whole “romantic” story was not really necessary. But I think they thrown it in because they were trying to appeal to everyone. They had some romance, a silly retard-bot to appeal to children and etc…
Besides, they didn’t even play by the rules with the romance thing. There was that scene in the movie when the kid is about to leave to get that stupid cube to the pickup point, and possibly die trying, and the girl runs after him. And then she tells him that she doesn’t regret getting into the car with him. WTF? Where is the kiss? This is the part of the movie where the protagonist gets a big sloppy kiss from his love interest to boost his courage and etc. Didn’t these guys watch enough crappy movies to know this?
Also, it appears that Autobots like to watch humans sexing each other. Here is a question – if they do it on top of Bumblebee does it count as a threesome? lol
And yeah – I liked the beaten-up look better too. It’s funny – the transformers were supposed to blend in with earth vehicles, but in the movie all except Bumblebee transform into these shiny, tricked out cars with awesome paint jobs that just scream “look at meeee”!.
