Guess what time it is? It is time to play Name that Game again. This time we do nostalgic blasts from the past. How many games you can identify here:
As usual, try to guess the titles by looking at the tiny screen shots and post the answers in the comments.
14 is Sam & Max Hit the Road
16 is Battle Chess
20 is Total Annihilation
I grabbed the easy ones.
I don’t think I ever had the pleasure of playing Battle Chess in color, but in the B&W version I always thought the black queen looked “partially disrobed”. That was probably the only reason I played it so often as an impressionable youth. I certainly didn’t win often enough for it to matter.
2. Syndicate
3. Flashback
6. Magic Carpet
13. Alone in the Dark
15. Dune 2
17. Lost Vikings
20. Jagged Alliance
21. Not sure about this but possibly Alpha Centauri?
Wow, I thought that #5 will be the first one to go. Interesting.
@ Jesse Persons:
#20 is not Total Annihilation though I can see how it may be difficult to identify from such a small screenshot. I tested this on my brother though, and he guessed #20 right away. Probably because he used to play this game a lot and he could easily recognize the familiar jungle tree lines, the black framing and etc…
Also, at the time this game had the best theme song ever.
@ upbeat.linux:
Yes on everything other than #20 and #21. See the comments above. #20 is not an RTS or turn based strategy.
@ Luke: Eeek. Alas, my memory has failed me on quite a few of these. Not to say they weren’t memorable, just that I might need more caffeine…
10. Heroes of Might and Magic
12. Day of the Tentacle
20 is Cannon Fodder! I think it’s the only one I’ve played.
3 looks interesting, though.
1. Simon the Sorcerer
4. Another World (or Out Of This World)
5. Blood (?)
9. Age Of Empires
19. Eye Of The Beholder (?)
21. Frontier: Elite 2
Oh, and I just remembered:
17. The Lost Vikings
For some reason I kept thinking “dwarfs” instead of “vikings” first.
I’ve played 1-10, 15-17, 19 & 20. Naming them is another matter entierly, especially right now when I have no home internet access, can’t pull out the old hard drive and open up a few games to put names to the memories.

2 Syndicate
3 Flashback
4 Out of this World

Reading over the comments, I TOTALLY see Cannon Fodder now. I can’t believe I didn’t get that one. Great game choices, Luke!
@ upbeat.linux:
Yep and yep.
@ IceBrain:
That’s a BINGO!
War! Never been so much fun
War! Never been so much fun
War! Never been so much fun
Something something something
Kill him with your gun
I have to look up that song when I get home today. :P
@ Macuyiko:
#19 close but no cookie. Everything else yes. Also first person who guessed Blood. Totally didn’t expect that one to last this long. I mean, multiplayer Blood was all I basically did my Freshman and Sophomore year in HS.
@ Gothmog:
Correct on all but #20.
Also, #19 is indeed Dungeon Master. I have logged many many hours in that game. :)
@ Luce Maciak:
@ Luke Maciak:
All the easy ones are gone.
7 was called … is it … Chaos Engine?
I would have got a handful of the others (especially Cannon Fodder) but all those point&click adventure type things look the same to me :-)
@ IceBrain:
Doublepost?

Chaos Engine! Wish I could have remembered the name for that one. I’m calling that my favorite from the list, and also the last one I played. Never owned it when it was out, had to grab it from the internet after reading a review. Definitely one I would spend the money on if I ever found a copy though, and sadly one of the few there that I don’t actually own.
It seems that the whole puzzle has been solved. Congratulations guys.
