So I watched this again yesterday:
This is sort of becoming an [adult swim] tradition. For several years now they have been airing this cinematic abortion on April Fools.
In case you didn’t guess from the image above, I’m talking about The Room, also known as “the worst movie ever made in the history of cinema”. Next to Tommy Wiseau, Uwe Boll looks like a some silver screen virtuoso. This movie is not only bad. It is unreasonably, unbelievably bad. Wiseau somehow manages to get absolutely everything wrong: the writing, the direction, the acting and even the sets (blatant blue screen rooftops) are abysmally horrible. In fact, you probably wouldn’t be able to match this movie in it’s sheer badness even if you set out to make a horrible movie on purpose. It simply defies the laws of reason.
In fact, most people who watch The Room for the first time, don’t actually believe it is a real movie. Most think that it is some elaborate, Andy Kaufman style prank. A parody. A introspective commentary on the movie industry…. Or something. But it is not. It is a real movie, created, directed and funded entirely by Tommy Wisau. And it was most definitely not meant to be funny. It just is.
The Room is a little bit out of my area of focus for this blog. I usually try to stick to SF, Fantasy and related genres here though I have strayed multiple times in the past. However, anything funny I might have said about this frighteningly silly movie abomination was probably already covered by the Nostalgia Critic. In fact, here is his take on this movie:
So if you missed it, or your cable does not carry [adult swim] I highly recommend checking out of this train wreck in some other way. Rent it, download it, whatever. You can even make it into a drinking game: drink every time someone says “Oh hi…”. And by drink, I mean take a sip, not take a shot. Unless of course you fancy having a liver failure 20 minutes into the film.
Happy April Fools!
