Game Queue and New Year Blog Topics

Happy January everyone. It’s time for me to make vague promises and/or threats about the direction of this blog. I vaguely remember doing this soft of thing last year. In lieu of new years resolutions I will tell you what I plan to blog about this year.

First and foremost is my game queue which swelled up thanks to the STEAM sale:

  1. One or two more posts on Fallout 3: New Vegas
  2. Overlord 2
  3. Batman: Arkham Asylum (lots of people seem to love this game)
  4. Devil May Cry 4 (I don’t even know why I picked this one up but it looks entertaining)
  5. Mount & Blade Warband
  6. Amnesia: Dark Descent
  7. Mass Effect 3 (when it comes out)
  8. Elder Scrolls: Skyrim (when it comes out)

This ought to keep me busy and entertainment for a little while at least. Especially since I still have not canceled my WoW account and I’m like one level away from the Cataclysm content. But I’m already super excited for Mass Effect 2. I can’t wait to see how they are going to kill and resurrect Sheppard this time. I’m also pretty sure the game probably won’t have any RP/stat building elements this time around but screw that – I still want to play it.

Now for the other stuff:

  1. Literature:

I got a whole bunch of books for Christmas. It’s stuff by Vernor Vinge, Charlie Stross, Alastair Reynolds, Neil Gaiman, China Tom Miéville and others. I will most likely be reviewing these as I go.

  2. Movies and TV:

I really promise to watch The Walking Dead. It should be easy enough too – the season is only 6 episodes long. Other than that I have a stack of older SF movies that I want to watch and review – among them are classics such as (Equilibrium, Existenz, Boy and His Dog) and some are rather obscure (Time Crimes, Cronos, Fremat’s Room). Oh, and I got some awesome animu recommendations here. They are all waiting for me to sit down and watch them.

  3. Programming:

Probably more .net stuff and more Python stuff. Especially since I have been hacking a lot of my old perl scripts into python. I might toss some of the general use one up here or at maciak.org. Also, I still want to take a crack at that making games more complex than my tetris project. So there might be more py-game related posts.

I will be continuing the Learn LaTex cycle, but I don’t really have any concrete schedule in mind. I guess these posts will drop when I feel like doing LaTex stuff.

Also, since I will most likely be switching my crap-berry for an android phone, I will likely take a crack at droid development at some point this year.

How about you? Any good games you are planning to play in this new year? Any games or movies you are particularly looking forward to? Let me know in the comments.

Happy New Year!

    Happy New Year!

I would love to see this blog be less about specific games. There were so many game reviews here that i personally dont read (cause i dont play any games except for simtower).
There was a time when this blog was more about computer “geeky” stuff like latex, your broken computer with the blinking itch and why prince of persias savesystem was way better.
I likes those entries much better :S

    No Deus Ex: Human revolution?
I flipped through this years game releases and there are quite a few I must play:
    Dead space 2
    Dragon age 2
    Deus Ex: Human revolution
    Crysis 2
    Portal 2
    The Witcher 2
    Torchlight 2
    Jumpgate evolution
    Mass effect 3
    The elder scrolls V

As for anime I’m waiting for “Despera” to be released, though I’m not sure about when it’s going to happen.

Not sure about movies though, gave up on getting anything good released long ago. Apart from possible future release of Battle Angel Alita, though since Cameron is working on on some lame Avatar sequels it will probably be at least half a decade.

I really enjoyed The Walking Dead, however I really hated the six episode season. It really leaves you wanting more, but in a bad way. Now we have to wait until what, October for season two? I would have preferred either a few more episodes on season one (maybe bring it up to 9) or start season two a little sooner.

    @ MrJones2015:

That’s a good point. Everyone does game reviews so I think my mission should be to talk about concepts, design and interesting story elements rather than giving you a yay or nay opinion or a rundown of features. This way even someone who didn’t play a game can possibly find something interesting in a post.

Also, what about Mathcard? I have never used it I’m afraid.

    @ Liudvikas:

Is the new Deus Ex supposed to be good? I heard it will probably be like Fallout 3 was to the original Fallout. I might pick it up though, since I have not played the original so I don’t really have a reason to be disappointed.

    @ Alphast:

This is pretty much all I know so far. I mean I know it will take place in Skyrim (the home of the Nords) and involve dragon type things. Oh, and it is supposed to use a brand new game engine which was written using their newly acquired ID Software assets. So maybe less bugs this time?

Btw, I don’t remember where I read the bit about a new game engine – so it might just be something that someone told me. :P

    @ Rob:

Doesn’t the next season have 12 episodes or something like that? I guess AMC really wanted to minimize their risk on this one, but they are not assholes like FOX which will green-light an entire season and then cancel the series after 4 episodes which they aired out of order.

I never played original deus ex either. But as long as I can choose one of the endings, where I transform world into cyborg utopia, it will be fine.
