@ ZeWrestler: You are right. I didn’t even think about that – but yeah, the post 9/11 thing might be yet another reason why they altered the ending.

I love the graphic novel and I’ve read it a number of times. Somehow the movie fell flat for me. It was faithful, stylistically perfect, but something was missing. Pacing maybe? And something was lost cutting out the Tales of the Black Freighter story line and the end chapter articles.

I for the most part have to agree with this review. I found the movie 80% loyal to the book. Easily. (this factors in stuff cut out and the ending change). I find it extremely weird people were ripping him for staying too loyal to the source. I know one person who had read the story first and made that complaint. I personally am happy they stayed loyal. That was a major issue I had with the latest Half-Blood prince. It wasn’t near loyal enough to the story for my taste.

SPOILER
One worry I had going into the movie was the ending. In the original book, NYC was destroyed. That’s fine and dandy when the book was written, but welcome to a post 9/11 world. That wouldn’t fly nearly as well. So I was glad, NYC wasn’t the only place destroyed. Granted, I would have liked the invasion to occur too. I think what I would have liked to see is a hybrid between the two endings; carnage of the movie, reasoning of the book.
/SPOILER

@ Rob: I know what you feel. Then again, I can see why Snyder did it. I understand the reasoning behind it. I wish he stuck to the original all the way up until the end, but it was not the worst thing he could have done.

@ Victoria: I agree, the opening credits were done amazingly well.

@ Steve: Actually, this happens more often than you think.

I liked Memento, I liked Run Lola Run, I enjoyed The Butterfly Effect, loved Donnie Darko, fell in love with Serenity (although I changed my opinion of the movie after watching Firefly), thought Primer was great, I highly praised [Rec] for being done well.

Oh and I loved both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight though I don’t think I have ever posted a review of any of them. Oh, an i thought Iron Man was decent.

I don’t just trash movies – there are movies that I really enjoy. It’s not my fault most of the stuff out there is crap. :)

I LOVED that movie. And the music was perfect for me. I barely recognized Dean Morgan at all (seen him in all those cheesy girly movies), so badass and awesome he was. And OMG, Jackie Earle Haley… the scenes in prison and his conversations with a shrink… But the thing that WOWed me most was the credits. They were unbeliavably good, a msterpiece on its own.

I was luke warm on the Watchmen. I appreciated how well made it was and the acting jobs done by the cast as well as Snyder’s faithful representation of the source material, but I was just feeling cheated by the ending. It’s like he was SO faithful to the source all throughout the movie, that the ending almost became an insult. It just left a bad taste in my mouth when I left the theater.

I don’t know, maybe I just need to watch it again now that it’s out on video.
