I Will Be Teaching Again

Montclair State University

Quick announcement for anyone who is interested. I just took up a position as an Adjunct Professor at Montclair State University and will be teaching two undergraduate Fluency in Technology classes in September. This is in addition to my full time job, but I’m not worried.

The way it works out, I only have to do this 2 nights a week and it won’t interfere with my normal work schedule. I can totally pull that off, and still have time to goof off. And having some extra money never hurts.

In fact I should be able to spend more time on preparation than when I was doing this as a graduate assistant. Back then I was teaching this class, working part time off campus, taking classes as a full time graduate student, doing TA work (grading and etc) for another professor, and writing my thesis. This time around I won’t have classes, thesis or TA responsibilities to worry about.

So what does this mean for the blog? You may expect to see a return of “Only at Montclair State” and “LOL MSU” type rants. If you don’t know what I mean go over and read some of the posts by Miloš – he tends to churn those out regularly. :P

LOL! Yes. We can swap notes and horror stories.

Did they assign you any sections yet? I don’t see you on the master schedule.

Oh, and since you are the new webmistress, I will probably need my TIS password reset sometime before September, unless I somehow figure out how to retrieve it from my long term memory (also known as /dev/null) by then.

  3. I hope to know my assignment by tomorrow. Did you hear about Dr. Wang filling in as chairman this semester. Apparently Dr. Deremer is taking a sabbatical.

Oh shit! Wang? That’s kinda scary. LOL

He is like one of the strictest, old school, by-the-book people we have in the department. It will be an…. Interesting semester.

Btw, are they getting any other GA’s or is it just you? I’m figuring they didn’t get to many this year since they called me. ;)

  5. There is another girl, Mila. She’s really nice. Dr. Wang is a teddy bear.

Ah cool. I think last year they only had 1 GA or something like that. Two is good. :)

I’m just saying that since you work there, you do get exposed to a fair share of Montclair WTF moments. It’s inevitable.

It’s kinda like living in the twilight zone – only more boring, and less mysterious. lol

And yet, I still like that place enough to go back. Go figure.

:) well said. Yeah, WTF moments are always there as I’m sure with most other organizations…btw, what is the process that you had to go through to adjunct? I’ve been offered CMPT 109 in the past but was too busy to take it on. However, it might be something I would wanna do next year.

As far as I can tell, I just need to fill out a couple of forms, get two recommendation letters, and get my transcripts sent to someone in HR. Apparently Deremer and Bredlau already wrote the letters (or will write them soon) so I don’t need to worry about that.

Also, one of the forms asks you to attach your Curriculum Vitae but Bev said a resume is ok too.

And I’m fully confident that this process will drag out till September and that they will loose my forms at least once. ;)

Oh Lukasz, why subject yourself to perils of MSU? You truly are a masochist. ;)

I don’t know. I just don’t seem to be able to get away from that place.

    I need help. LOL

I think you may want to visit CAPS, and have them refer you to a psych. If all else fails, go visit one of the professors in the Psych department on the 2nd floor of CHSS. They may be able to help you.

    LOL

    LOL

But, the CHSS people also work at MSU. Wouldn’t that mean they are too far gone to help me?
