It is a good thing that MSU is using Blackboard as it’s Learning Management System. If they had went with something else, we would possibly have to think about switching really soon.
US patent office has decided that we really only need one LMS (why would you ever need more?), and so they granted a very broad patent to Blackboard. Essentially, if your company produces a CMS that could be used for learning purposes, you are infringing.
Apparently they have already started suing their competitors. Thank you USPTO for establishing what technically amounts to legal monopoly on the LMS market, and fucking it up for the rest of us.
