I suggest the game Darwinia. It’s an awesome strategy / rts / turn based / everything else game. It’s based in a virtual reality program named “Darwinia” where a doctor has created little “Darwinians” that evolve and resemble sentient life via virtual evolution. But, a strange virus has been released on this virtual plain, and it threatens the survival of the Darwinians. Your job is to protect them at all costs.
