Holly crap! This movie looks amazing:

I never read Frank Miller’s graphic novel on which this movie is based, but I think pretty much everyone knows the basic story here. 300 brave spartan warriors hold off an overwhelming enemy force against all the odds. Either way, all I can say after watching the trailer is wow. Awesome coated awesomeness all around! I can’t wait to see it!

Oh, and Happy New Year!

Seeing how this movie is based on a graphic novel, rather than actual historical story of the battle of Thermopylae, I’m guessing these are some evil Persian warlords and their twisted minions that the über cool spartan heroes will be fighting. I’m guessing the freakiness is a comic book villain thing. :P

I never read the thing though, so your guess is as good as mine. Either way, I wouldn’t expect this to be historically accurate in any way. But it looks awesome.

the one i saw looked pretty awesome though, takes some balls to be one of 300 guys facing off against a giant horde of enemies (if they weren’t actors that is)

300 was a terrible film, execpt for the graphics, its a good if you like xbox and other video games. 300 was pretendtious, nothing was reality in this film. Persian army consist of a multinational states in which even conquored greeks had to fight in the persian army. I am not sure why they had model guys with 8 packs running around representing spartans. That person used as xerxes hardly fit the bil, Xerxes was a long haired and bearded fellow, more of Nordic appearance along with the Persians and the Medians who faught in that war. Another false scene was when the persians declared themselves as gods, persians had a religion they followed which consist of one god. Anyways I think they forgot to also mention that spartan warriors had gay companions and that was exceptable in that time and also after that war Sparta allied with Persia against athens! I think the creator of this film was remaking history. Also, Persian navy had a Viking appreance, thats where the Viking uniform derived from. I guess they didnt want to mention that either, I think they should of just hired more swedish models to play greeks on fantasy island. Oh ya there was no such as greeks, but Sparta, Cornith and Athens who saw themselves as a separate nation. I think more thought and more research should be put in to a movie, i really dont think 300 men can beat 100 though men. Herodotus who was a greek and were we get this information from was criticized for some of his works, he only interviewed greeks and ofcourse most of this information came from exaguration!

I never really expected this movie to be true to history – especially since it is based on Frank Miller’s comic book. The storyline as well as the look and feel of the movie was really heavily influenced by the drawings in the comic.

I think they aimed for being true to the graphic novel version, not the real events so bashing it for not being historically accurate is not really fair.

But yeah, I heard that once you take away the special effects, there is not much more to this movie.

I haven’t seen it yet, so I’ll reserve my judgment for later.

I did see the movies and while some parts (especially “freakless” parts) were good, I did expect a bit more. In any event, I liked it as I’m a huge history buff and a fan of the Spartans. ;-)

i didnt read the comic book , but if it was based on that then thats a different thing. Obviously iam a history buff and would rather see the persian clubbering the spartans as they did in real life. The movie itself was terrible, acting was bad, people were laughing in the theatre. The special affects was pretty good if you are into cgi, i guess like some people fark miller was really obsessed with the Spartans. More of the acting was like shakespeare acting like “Alexander” another inacurate fars, however collin farrel played the character really well. You cant really make a fiction out of a real event, if it was the event then they could of showed the domination of babylon and Esther who was important biblically married xerxes…..correction in the previous blog, how can 300 take on 1million..thats in fantasy land. Again if you are fan of cgi and its effects then you probably will love the film!

It was very thin on plot and historical accuracy and very heavy on CGI and fight-scene type effects
    But I liked that

Agreed, it is an over-dramatization of a historical event. I think Frank Miller took many liberties with the real story and made it into something original that not necessarily was historically accurate.
