Aunt May vs. Galactus

Merciful God, what the fuck in hell is this???

Aunt May vs. Galactus
found @ wikipedia

I was looking up some stuff about Galactus and I found this image, which just leaves me speechless. I’m not sure if this is one of stupid Marvel “What If” stories, some wacky April Fool’s issue, or if one day all the Marvel writers and artists decided to smoke crack, but it does qualify for the “Worst Superhero Ever” award.

Ok, I seriously want to know exactly how much crack does one have to smoke in order to actually release something like that? I swear, we could use this comic cover in those “this is your brain on crack” PSA’s.

Actually, I think that this is a pretty sweet joke/mea culpa on the part of marvel–at least I hope it is.

As far as I understand, it’s a reference to a bit of internet sub-culture that puts Aunt May out there as someone able to defeat people like Firelord, due to her winning the only fight she’s ever been in. In that, due to a bit of plot-induced stupidity, she knocked Peter Parker (Spiderman) out with a pan, thinking he was a burglar. People like Venom, Juggernaut, Hulk, etc, have hit Peter multiple times without knocking him out, so the idea is that clearly, Aunt May is a beast.

It’s an internet joke based off a bit of terrible writing by Marvel, and I think it’s pretty good of them to be able to laugh at themselves like this.

…..Just as long as that’s not an ACTUAL cover. Otherwise, this is pathetic.

After doing some research I think this was an actual cover. Apparently she temporarily became herald of Galactus and was granted superpowers on a fluke – or something like that. But yeah, it’s no joke – this is a legit Marvel story.

I’m pretty sure I had that one many moons ago. You’ll notice that it’s dated June, so it would have been on the stands in April, and also the “assistant editor’s month” on the cover. Mercifully, I have managed to supress the memory of the actual story almost completely.
