Conversations

Here is a conversation I had with my brother this morning:

Ark: I need a notebook!
Me: What for?
Ark: There is like a plague of emo kids on campus this year!
Me: Oh yeah?
Ark: Yeah, all they do is mope around and scribble in their journals.
Me: Wait, I thought that they all just use LiveJournal for that.
Ark: Yeah, me to but apparently the real paper journals are back in.
Me: heh…
Ark: I’m gonna sit under a tree with this notebook and pretend I’m emo
Me: Oh… I thought you needed it to take notes in class…
Ark: <blank stare> No, I need it for making fun of emo kids.

Why confine yourself to 1 medium when you can spread your emo annoyance through several mediums.

reminder, not ever lj user is emo. apparently some are your everyday geek, while others are spree shooters. http://weise.livejournal.com/ (Jeffrey Weise)

Yeah, not every LJ user is emo. ( ∃ lj user ∉ emo )

Not every emo kid is a LJ user. ( ∃ emo ∉ lj user )

But, I think this holds true:

emo blogger ∩ lj user > emo blogger ∩ ¬ lj user

ahhh discrete math *jumps behind rock*

if you were to look it at that, you can say that lj user is contained within the set of bloggers. therefore, there are emo bloggers out side of lj. you haven’t even commented about the lj forks yet. *tisk tisk*

All I said was that the intersection of the sets emo blogger and LJ user is larger than the intersection between emo blogger and not LJ user. So yes the following are also true:

∀ lj user ∈ blogger (all LJ users are bloggers)
∃ emo ∈ (blogger ∩ ¬ lj user) (there are emo kids who are bloggers but not LJ users)

Neither of these invalidates my previous statements. )

I think most of this stuff is set theory which should be covered in discrete math course at MSU. Last time I checked it is a required undergrad course so you will probably see these soon mrgreen

      ∃ - means there exists:

∃ students ∈ blogger - there exists at least one member of the set students which also belongs to the set blogger

      ∀ - means for all:

∀ students ∈ people- al the members of the set students are also in the set people

∩ - intersection - the intersection of two sets is their common part

      This has some of them:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_of_logic_symbols
      ∈ - contained within a set
      āˆ‰ - not contained within a set.
