What is this thing?

Can anyone guess what is this thing?

Was is das?

It sits in the mens room at my work. Try guessing what the hell it is, because first time I saw it I was stumped. Or perhaps I’m just sheltered and everyone who is in the money has one of these standing in their house… P Post your guess in the comments section.

Isn’t it a shoe cleaner/polisher thing? Although i’m not certain about the long pole bit… speed control maybe?

It’s a shoeshine machine. The long pole has the on/off button. Some varients also have stiffer bristles for removing mud and debri from the bottom of the shoe (such as in a golf course before entering the clubhouse). Just a quick method of removing small and simple scuff marks.

Shoe polisher. The handle has a control button so that you can turn it on while standing. I know someone who owns one just like that.

He used to be a bull rider, and he’s worn cowboy boots every day for the last 40+ years. He cleans them by hand frequently, but uses a machine for little touch ups. Rain or shine his boots are perfectly polished. He told me once that he usually has about $15,000 worth of boots in his closet. ($500-1000 per pair)

Yup! You are both correct. It’s a friken shoe polishing thing. That long pole has a button on the handle so that you don’t have to bend over to use it.

First time I saw it, I had no clue what it was. It was not untill I started playing with it and saw it working that I realized what it was used for. )

Okay, apparently you don’t get out much. Just about every airport I have been to has one located in or near the restrooms. Many finer restaurants also have them.

I don’t really fly that much so I’m not sure about the airports. I haven’t really seen them in the past, but they might be more common nowadays.

I’m also not a very big on fancy restaurant dining either. Most of the places I go to didn’t have these. I haven’t even seen one of those in my boss’ country club. Perhaps I’m not going to the right places though.

I’m sure they are not very uncommon - I just never happened to find one before I started working here (and if I did, I didn’t really notice it much).
