I’m Upgrading to Dapper/Edgy

I need a change. I’m sick and tired of screwing around with Hoary. I feel like I’m left behind, with respect to new packages and etc. I don’t think that Firefox 2.0 will ever end up in Hoary repositories - the same is true for many other new versions of popular applications. And it’s only going to get worse. So I decided that I have to upgrade at least to Dapper.

This is what I’m going to do today. When I get home, I’m going to fire up the laptop, change all the hoary references in /etc/apt/sources.list to dapper and then do dist-upgrade and let it run as I watch Scrubs. If all goes well, then by the time I’m done watching BSG I should be all updated. If it works, maybe I’m gonna kick it up a notch, and upgrade to Edgy.

If everything goes to hell, I’m just going to do a clean install from CD (remember, I got a whole package of original Ubuntu CD’s in the mail not so long ago). I think Dapper has a better ndiswrapper support, but if it doesn’t I can still hax it just like I did the last time.

Either way, I’m going to have the whole weekend to mess around with it if I run into problems.

Let’s see if apt can live up to it’s reputation and seamlessly upgrade my system without the need to reinstall anything.
