How lucky am I! I didn’t even sign up for any lottery! An here I won one that does not even exist! It must be my lucky day. :mrgreen:

I post these kind of emails here so that they get indexed by Google and serve as a reference for people who get these in the future. I leave the spammer’s email address in plain text because I think they fully deserve to get on all sorts of spam lists. :twisted:

Update 08/22/2007 09:19:51 AM

People keep asking this in the comments as if they didn’t get it, so let me clarify this here:

THIS IS A SCAM

UK Lottery does not send these emails. If you don’t believe me, go to their website and check it yourself:

http://www.lottery.co.uk/html/scamtop.htm
http://www.lottery.co.uk/info/scamnonpc.asp
http://www.national-lottery.co.uk/player/information.do?info=commonsca ms

Do not send them any money. Do not send them any info. If you do, it’s your own fault. Please don’t ask if it is really a scam in the comments. It is. If you don’t believe it, go ahead and send them your money. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you.

      I read somewhere that the admins log IP address and compare them to their scammer IP address log, so no known scammers and visit and read the stuff there.

      I definitely recommend registering though; some of the stuff there is intense!

      When you do, read the scambaits by “theFAILURE” they are very very good.

      My question is, what are they trying to accomplish with just a name, address and phone number, etc.

      Pretty much phone book information.

      It must be something I’m missing, maybe they’ll ask for a SS# or something down the road to complete the scam.

      There is always the risk of identity theft. But you didn’t give them your date of birth, social security and etc which is good. This may or may not be enough for them to establish some fraudulent line of credit.

      I would contact the police and see if they can give you any advice.

      Hello lucky lotto winners!

      I was also one of the luckyest person, who won 500 000 pounds. I knew this was scam but i wanted to know, what they will accomplish with that. The catch is: if you want to receive your prize money, you have to send via Western Union about 1900€ for some “attorney”, who will do all the papers for you to get this “prize”.

      Btw, he even did call and we spoke briefly. Its very well organized “scam” i must say.

      Sorry 4 my bad english :)

Failure to claim your winnings within the stipulated time frame will lead to the forfeiture of your winnings after which your winnings remitted back to the United Kingdom National Lottery Headquarters and will then be added to next winning draws. Also kindly be aware that the United Kingdom National Lottery winning prizes are regulated by the Financial Services Authority and as a result, you are advice to follow the Lottery Claims Terms and Conditions to ensure the remittance of your prize to you within the stipulated time of the claiming of winnings.

      Further to this, due to some recent miss-up of some winning numbers, as a Prize winner and according to the United Kingdom National Lottery Terms and Conditions, you are only privy to your winnings informations and your winnings transfer information in order to avoid any form of double claiming and misappropriation of your winnings, hence the release of your winning informations to a third party(friends and family members inclusive) is absolutely ruled out as this will lead give room to double claiming by a third party which is against the United Kingdom National Lottery Terms and Conditions. You are hereby advice to keep your winning information personal from any third parties (friends and family members inclusive) until your winnings have been remitted to you.

      Lastly, I will require a concise update on your proceedings with the Agency that will be handling the transfer of your winning. If you need any assistance whatsoever from this office, please do not hesitate to inform me.

      Yours Sincerely,
      Dr.Pinkett Griffin

      Yes, a 100% spam. Don’t you see the pattern here?

      NO LOTTERY SENDS YOU NOTIFICATION OF WINNING VIA EMAIL.

      Also, YOU MUST ENTER TO WIN! No lottery that I know off will give you prizes unless you specifically singed up, bought a ticket or something.

      I also recieved the same kind of an e-mail, few days ago. But, I refused to pay any amount for their Premium Account. Thereafter, they didn’t replied to that e-mail and I also read almost all the comments, posted on this page. I am really satisfied to know that it’s a scam and I didn’t paid anything for it.

      But, I am a bit worried as well because I provided my personal details to them. So, can anybody tell me whether the can misuse this information.

      It depends on what you gave them. Can they get a credit card with the info you gave them? If not, then it’s probably not that bad.

      You can always call the local police department (not the emergency line though) and ask them if there is anything you can do with regards to the potential fraud.

      Probably not enough info to do anything. If you gave them some sort of personal ID number, credit card number or a bank account number you might have been in trouble. Since you didn’t I guess you will be fine. :)

      Dear, Randhir Kumar;

      I think i am in a bad mode to say this, but you have to do this on time as it is very important considering the fact that you are not ready to claims your winnings.

      I have received your response and we have seem that you are not willing to pay the activation charges.
      On the contrary, if you are not willing to make the payment of transfer charges, ensure to fill this attach email to my office requesting to forfeit your winnings. This email will be printed and attached to your file as proof that you have willingly forfeited your winnings not under duress or force. Your winning funds will now be unclaimed funds and Return to the UK National Lottery (UNL).

      Please note that we have put an hold to the transfer of your winning. We where in the final stage of the transfer hoping you will come up with the needed charges.

      The funds is expected to be transferred to your country, you cannot keep the funds in our Bank as a current account because you contacted us for the transferring of your funds, so the funds is said to be a transferring funds. In every successful transfer of funds especially in this regards, it is an essentialist that you activate a premium account with the bank that can accommodate and transfer such an amount of money.

      It is very important that we receive the fee prior to the transfer of your winning funds, as part of the fee will be used to cover the necessary transfer charges, also included in the fee is the cost to cover insurance of documents.

      I am informed by your Fiduciary agent that you have been made aware of the required upfront transfer charge prior to your contacting us. Kindly oblige and make this payment as your funds is presently awaiting transfer.

      Considering that we cannot process your prize money without payment of the required charges, I advise that you arrange for the funds to be transferred as earlier instructed. If you can not come up with this amount, your claims will be cancelled and your funds remmitted to the National Lottery as unclaimed. I have been trying to call for more clearification.

      Your urgent reply will be most welcome.

      Recently(on 29/08/2007), I got an e-mail from UK NATIONAL LOTTERY HEADQUARTERS, The Marina Offices, St Peters Yacht Basin,
      Newcastle upon Tyne, NE6 1HX England claiming that I emerged as a weekly winner of their random draws. Therefore, I have been approved to claim the funds which amounts to £1,000,000.00 (One million great british pounds sterling). “This sum is gathered from our Sponsors consisting of over 100,000 websites and association”, as per their e-mail.

      In view of the above I respond to their e-mail and advised them to deliver my winnings through courier at my residence. Earlier, they were reluctant to do so. But, with due course of 3-4 e-mails from my side, they agreed to send me the winning through Elite Courier Dispatch LTD(an affiliate of the UK NATIONAL LOTTERY). As per their e-mail, Elite Courier is Regulated and Stipulated by the Finacial Service Authority (FSA), the finacial institutions that Govern all Finacial activities in the United Kingdom.

      Also, they advised me, For the Prompt Dispatch of my Parcel today I Have to Locate a Nearest BANK and Make a Payment for the Cost of delivery Which is (400.00 GBP = 32,771.61 INR ). I have to Make the Payment to their account officer. I can pay the said fee in our country’s currency but it should be equivelent to the amount in pounds.

      Now, I would like to know whether should I make the payment or it may be a spam. I am also attaching the e-mail that I got from Elite Courier Dispatch LTD, yesterday.

      @RAJ – it’s definitely a scam.

      @Randhir – see above. Also a scam.

      People, NO ONE, and I repeat NO ONE in their right mind would base a lottery on randomly selected email addresses harvested from the web. Sorry, you can’t win a fucking lottery that you didn’t sign up for and you can’t win an awesome prize in a promotion that you didn’t participate in.

      Do you people know how lotteries make money? By SELLING FUCKING TICKETS. This is how they can offer a lucky winner a few million bucks each weak – because a billion of people buy into it without realizing that the chance of winning is about as high as the chance of getting hit by a lightning. If they were giving out money to random dudes on the internets, they would be out of business.

      Oh, and since when does BMW use a yahoo email address for their official mailings? Wouldn’t you expect their email to end in bmw.com or something like that?

      Seriously, you people are getting conned by a fucking retard that can’t even figure out how to spoof his email address. I mean, come on! Even the viagra spammers know how to do that. These 419 scamers are the lowest of the low – the fucking bottom rung of the spam market.

      And if you still have doubts, call the company named in the email on the phone. And don’t sue the number in the email (if they have one) – it’s probably fake. Look it up online or in Yellow pages so you know it’s a legit one, and call them. Get a fucking human on the phone, and ask about your fabulous prize.

      Seriously, a long distance phone call to the company is much cheaper than all these fake fees and payments they will ask you for.

      Use your heads people!
