Flashlight Laser that Burns FTW!

This is officially awesome:

This would be so much better than playing with magnifying glass on a sunny day. I wish I had one of these when I was a kid. You know, we would really put it to use. It would be the ultimate tool for setting off fireworks. Yes I grew up in a big city – blowing up glass beer bottles with the biggest firecrackers or potassium-nitrate with sugar was one of our favorite past times. The fact that I have all limbs and fingers intact is something of a miracle.

Anyway, I’m really tempted to do this. I actually have a broken DVD burner lying around somewhere at work. The only problem is – I would probably get 3rd degree burns, set myself on fire or fry one of my eyes out of my head. And that’s just with a soldering iron. God only knows what damage I could cause with a functional laser. But I know it would be awesome, and quite dangerous for everyone around me.

I saw this and thought about making one… and then I realised I’d have to break it apart as soon as it was made. If I left it intact, then someone at some point is going to look into it or point it at someone else. It’s very cool, but extremely easy to have an accident. Eyeburn isn’t something easy to live with. I would caution any casual user to not make one of these.

Then I decided to tell those rambunctious kids to get the gosh darn hell away from my azaleas!

Travis: So that’s what it’s called around here? Salt Peter? Back where I’m from we just called it Saletra. Good to know.

Varci: Even if someone would avoid eye-burn, and figure out it was a lazer pointer, they would doubtlessly decide to use it to play the “make the cat chase the red point” game. With this toy it could only end up with cat-burn, and possibly also small fire. LOL

Not to mention you have to destroy a perfectly good laser pointer to make it.

I grew up as a military brat. As kids, we used to mix Tide and gasoline in a glass bottle, stopper it with a tampon, place several of these in a metal trash can and see whose lid blew the furthest.

I have GOT to make one of these….gotta keep it out of the reach of my kids, though.
